Racial Justice
Juneteenth is a day to celebrate the emancipation of slaves in the United States. June 19th marks the day when slaves in Texas finally received the news that they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation two years earlier. It goes to show that freedom can't just be stated, it must be fought for. Jesus invites us all into that struggle with his words, recorded in Luke 4:16-21, "I am sent to proclaim release to the captive... to let the oppressed go free." As of 2021, Juneteenth is a national holiday in the United States of America. Join your sisters and brothers in Christ in celebrating Black achievement and liberation on Juneteenth.
